At Brown’s Behavioral Consulting, we recognize the profound challenges faced by youth in foster care and group homes. These young people often navigate frequent displacements, unstable relationships, and systems that may misunderstand their needs or misinterpret their behaviors.
Caught in environments that can feel isolating and unpredictable, they deserve more than temporary solutions they need consistent, compassionate support that empowers them to thrive. Our programs are built to address the unique struggles of youth in care, offering stability, understanding, and practical tools to help them overcome obstacles and build brighter futures. We don’t just manage behaviors; we foster belonging, self-awareness, and resilience.
Across the care system, youth placed in group homes and foster settings are too often met with standardized routines, overworked staff, and environments that lack personal connection. While many placements are well-intentioned, they frequently fall short of addressing the emotional, behavioral, and relational needs of the young people they serve.
At Brown’s Behavioral Consulting, our In-Person Support Program was designed to fill that gap. We provide consistent, individualized, and behaviorally grounded care that extends beyond supervision. Our team works directly with youth in their placements and communities to build trust, offer mentorship, stabilize behaviors, and support personal development in ways that traditional systems simply can’t.
We don’t replace care — we elevate it.
The In-Person Support Program at Brown’s Behavioral Consulting delivers one-to-one, customized behavioral care for youth placed in foster homes, group homes, or transitional care settings. Youth receive between 6 to 40 hours of weekly support based on their unique needs, behavioral goals, and the limitations or gaps within their current placement environment.
Support is offered in-home, in the community, and wherever meaningful connection and therapeutic opportunities can take place—whether that’s during a walk, over a shared meal, at a library, gym, job center, or simply during open conversations that foster trust and growth.
This program is grounded in relational consistency, behavioral understanding, and individualized care, ensuring that each young person feels genuinely seen, supported, and understood.
At the heart of our approach is the A.I.M. Model—Action, Intention, and Motivation—a structured method of behavioral analysis that transforms how staff and youth alike understand behavior:
Action — What behavior occurred?
Intention — What was the goal or function behind it?
Motivation — What unmet need, emotional state, or internal driver fueled it?
This model moves us away from reactive, compliance-based approaches and into insight-driven intervention. By uncovering behavioral root causes, we create targeted, sustainable, and compassionate strategies for long-term change.
Many youth in care have experienced chronic instability, fractured trust, and emotional overwhelm. Our team uses trauma-informed strategies to teach emotional literacy, self-regulation, and conflict resolution. Rather than managing behavior, we create a stable, empathetic foundation where youth learn to understand and express their inner world safely—fostering trust, respect, and resilience in relationships.
Support extends beyond the walls of the home. We accompany youth in real-world activities that promote confidence, inclusion, and growth—whether it’s practicing social interactions, joining a community event, working on public transit navigation, or volunteering at a local organization. These experiences enhance social competence, independence, and a sense of belonging.
Youth in care often fall behind in basic life readiness. Our staff bridge those gaps through direct coaching in budgeting, personal hygiene, meal preparation, time management, digital literacy, academic engagement, and employment preparation. These sessions are customized, goal-oriented, and tied to each youth’s developmental readiness and long-term success plan.
In foster and group home environments, youth often cycle through multiple placements, staff, and systems that fail to offer the consistency and individualized attention they deserve. CareLink: Youth Portal by Brown’s Behavioral Consulting was created to change that offering a fully virtual, behaviorally grounded support platform designed to travel with the youth, wherever they go.
Rooted in practical experience and backed by behavioral science, CareLink provides real-time, one-to-one support that helps youth understand their behaviors, navigate challenges, and build skills for long-term success—all from a device they already use.
Unlike traditional behavioral health models that rely on diagnostic labels or rigid, one-size-fits-all interventions, CareLink is built on collaboration, trust, and respect for each youth’s individuality. Youth in foster care and group homes are not viewed as cases to be managed or problems to be fixed, but as individuals with unique strengths, challenges, and stories.
CareLink’s approach is specifically tailored to the dynamic and often unpredictable realities of foster care and group home environments, ensuring that support is relevant, accessible, and responsive to the lived experiences of these youth. Our platform offers a comprehensive suite of features designed to promote emotional well-being, personal growth, and self-efficacy:
Continuous Access: CareLink is available 24/7 through a secure, user-friendly virtual platform, ensuring youth can access tools and support whenever they need it—whether during a late-night moment of distress, a placement transition, or a quiet moment of reflection. The platform is optimized for mobile devices, laptops, and tablets, making it easy to use in group homes, foster homes, or on the go, without requiring specialized equipment or in-person visits.
Trauma-Informed Care: Every aspect of CareLink is grounded in trauma-informed principles, recognizing the profound impact of adverse experiences common in foster care, such as separation, loss, or instability. Our guidance is delivered with empathy and sensitivity, prioritizing safety, trust, and empowerment. Behavioral specialists are trained to respond to crisis moments such as emotional outbursts, anxiety, or conflicts with de-escalation techniques and compassionate support, helping youth feel seen and understood rather than judged or controlled.
Interactive A.I.M. Tools: The A.I.M. Model comes to life through engaging, age-appropriate exercises that guide youth in exploring their behaviors and emotions. These tools include interactive scenarios, visual mapping activities, and goal-setting frameworks that help youth break down complex feelings and situations. For example, a youth might use an A.I.M. exercise to analyze a recent conflict with a peer, identifying the action (e.g., yelling), the intention (e.g., to be heard), and the motivation (e.g., feeling ignored). These activities build critical coping skills, such as problem-solving, emotional regulation, and self-reflection, while empowering youth to set achievable personal goals, like improving communication or managing stress.
Reflective Journaling: CareLink provides a secure, private space for youth to process their thoughts and emotions through guided journaling prompts. These prompts are designed to encourage self-expression and introspection, helping youth articulate their experiences and identify patterns in their feelings or behaviors. For instance, a prompt might ask, “What’s one moment today that felt overwhelming, and what helped you get through it?” Journaling is a safe outlet for youth to explore their identities, process trauma, or celebrate successes, with the option to share entries with a trusted specialist for further discussion or keep them private.
Direct Support Chat: Youth have immediate access to a Direct Support Chat feature, connecting them in real time with trained behavioral specialists who are well-versed in the complexities of foster care and group home dynamics. These specialists provide nonjudgmental, strengths-based support, offering guidance during moments of crisis, answering questions, or simply listening. The chat is available around the clock, ensuring youth never have to face challenges alone, even in the middle of the night or during a stressful placement change. Specialists use the A.I.M. Model to help youth process their experiences and develop practical strategies for moving forward.
Personalized Modules: CareLink’s skill-building modules are tailored to the real-life challenges youth in foster care and group homes encounter, such as navigating frequent placement changes, building healthy relationships with peers or caregivers, advocating for their needs, or preparing for independent living. Each module combines evidence-based strategies with practical, relatable content, delivered through videos, quizzes, and interactive tasks. For example, a module on self-advocacy might teach youth how to communicate their needs during a caseworker meeting, while a relationship-building module might focus on setting boundaries or resolving conflicts. Modules are customized to each youth’s developmental stage, cultural background, and personal goals, ensuring relevance and engagement.
Behavioral Insight Through the A.I.M. Model
At the foundation of CareLink is our A.I.M. Model a proven framework that helps youth break down and better understand their behavior:
Action – What did I do?
Intention – Why did I do it?
Motivation – What deeper need or feeling drove me?
Rather than simply reacting to behavior, this model encourages reflection, emotional awareness, and problem-solving. Youth learn to move from impulsive actions to intentional growth on their terms, with the support of someone who genuinely listens.
